Rescriptum

Tools & capabilities

Detailed reference for Rescriptum's native tool suite.

Rescriptum equips agents with a focused, high-performance tool registry designed for deterministic software engineering.

Code Exploration Tools

  • read_symbol(path, symbol_name): Uses Tree-sitter to locate exact function, class, or type declarations in TypeScript/Rust files and returns them with stripped bodies to conserve tokens.
  • find_interface_slice(path, component_name): Extracts {Component}Props interfaces and component signatures for React/TSX components.
  • smart_read(path, symbols?, line_range?): Targeted file reading with symbol filtering and range bounding.
  • search_files(pattern, path?): Ultra-fast ripgrep search across workspace files.
  • find_symbols(query): Queries the local SQLite codebase index for symbol definitions across the project.

File Editing Tools

  • patch_file(path, old_string, new_string): The primary editing tool. Employs a 6-tier matching engine: exact byte match → indentation-padded match → Unicode character normalization → line-sequence match → whitespace collapse → sliding-window word overlap ($ge 0.72$).
  • str_replace(path, old_string, new_string): Direct targeted string replacement with uniqueness validation.
  • multi_patch_file(path, patches[]): Executes multiple atomic replacements in a single call, validating all spans before modifying disk.
  • write_file(path, content): Creates new files or overwrites existing files with pre-turn snapshot preservation.

System & Shell Tools

  • run_command(command, cwd?): Executes commands in an isolated subshell. Crucially, the working directory is strictly reset to the workspace on every call — subshell cd commands run isolated and never leak state into subsequent tool invocations.
  • command_policy: Automatically blocks destructive commands (e.g. rm -rf /, formatting drives) via hard-deny rules.

Verification Tools

  • verify(command?, auto_revert?): Triggers full compiler or test verification. When auto_revert is true (default), any failed verification immediately restores the workspace to the last green state.
  • get_diagnostics(path?): Fetches structured compiler and LSP diagnostics for the current workspace.

Research Tools

  • research(query): High-level compound research primitive that queries multi-engine cascades (Tavily, Brave, DuckDuckGo Lite, Bing) and extracts clean markdown with a freshness conflict guard.
  • web_search(query): Web search returning ranked links, snippets, and authority scores.
  • web_fetch(url): Fetches page content with boilerplate removal and headless browser rendering fallback.
